To add a gang sheet builder to Shopify, install a compatible app, connect your products and sheet sizes, add its storefront button, and test a complete order.
A gang sheet holds several designs on one print sheet. A builder lets customers upload artwork, set each design’s size, and arrange the sheet before ordering.
This guide covers that setup for a DTF store. Each app works differently, so follow your builder’s documentation for product connections and export settings.

Check the builder against your printing workflow
Before installing an app, check whether it supports:
- Sheet sizes your shop can print.
- Your Shopify theme and the page where customers will open the builder.
- Ordering options you need, such as building a sheet or uploading a finished one.
- Production files your RIP software can open.
- Pricing that fits your order volume, including subscription fees and usage charges.
Try the demo on a phone. Upload artwork, resize it, and follow the steps toward the cart. Check whether the controls and instructions are easy to understand.
Start with one product and one sheet size. Get the whole process working before adding your full catalog.
Install the app and back up your theme
Open the builder’s Shopify App Store listing and click Install. Review its requested access and privacy policy, then confirm the installation. Open the app from your Shopify admin and follow its setup instructions.
Read the billing terms before approving a plan. Free to install can still mean there are charges for using the app.
Before changing your storefront, go to Online Store > Themes, open your theme’s actions menu, and choose Duplicate. Use the copy to preview your theme changes.
A duplicate theme only copies the theme. It does not create a separate test store. Changes to products or app settings can still affect your live store.
Connect your product and sheet sizes
Follow the builder’s instructions to create or select a Shopify product and connect it to the app.
For fixed-size sheets, Shopify variants can represent the sizes customers buy. If you configure variants yourself, open the product under Products, add a Size option, and enter your sizes. Review each variant’s price, inventory, and shipping settings.
For example:
| Customer selects | Builder width | Builder height |
|---|---|---|
| 20 × 24 in | 20 in | 24 in |
| 20 × 48 in | 20 in | 48 in |
These are example sizes. Use dimensions supported by your own printing process.
Check every size connection. Selecting the smaller sheet should open the smaller canvas and produce the correct cart price. Confirm the dimensions inside the builder rather than relying on the variant name.
Also explain what quantity means. If it means copies of the completed sheet, say so. Customers should understand the difference between ordering two sheets and placing two copies of a design on one sheet.

Add the builder to your product page
Follow the app’s storefront instructions. It may use an app block, an app embed, or another integration method.
For an app block:
- Go to Online Store > Themes and click Edit theme.
- Open the product template assigned to your gang sheet product.
- In a supported section, click Add block and select the builder under Apps.
- Position the block and click Save.
If the app requires an embed, open App embeds in the theme editor, enable it, and save. App blocks require a compatible theme and section.
Preview the actual product page. Use a clear button label such as Build Your Gang Sheet, then check that it opens the correct product and sheet size.

Set artwork rules and explain the order
Configure the controls your builder provides for accepted file types, upload limits, design spacing, and sheet margins. Base these settings on your printing and cutting process.
Place short instructions near the builder button:
- Choose a sheet size.
- Upload artwork in an accepted format.
- Set each design to its final print size.
- Leave the required space between designs.
- Review the layout before adding it to the cart.
For DTF orders, explain when artwork needs a transparent background. Tell customers what happens if a file needs correction, including any charges or delays.
Set resolution requirements at the final print size. A 1,200-pixel-wide image has 300 pixels per inch when printed 4 inches wide, but only 150 when printed 8 inches wide. Use an acceptance threshold your shop has tested.
Include your turnaround time and explain whether production starts after payment or after artwork approval.
Test checkout and the production file
Use artwork with known dimensions. Build a sheet, add it to the cart, and complete a test checkout. Repeat the upload and cart steps on a phone.
Check that:
- The product and price stay correct, including the sheet size and quantity.
- The order retains the design, so staff can identify the customer’s layout.
- The exported file has the correct dimensions, including individual design sizes.
- The file opens correctly in your RIP, without unwanted scaling.
- Staff can identify what to print, including the number of sheet copies.
For the example above, a 4-inch-wide design on a 20 × 24-inch sheet should remain 4 inches wide when the exported sheet is imported at its intended physical size.
Shopify supports simulated checkout through its test payment gateway or Shopify Payments test mode. A paid plan is required to test a payment gateway. Customers cannot place live orders while the payment provider is in test mode, so plan your test and turn test mode off afterward.
Keep the test order and its export as a reference when you change themes or update the app.

If the builder is not working
| Problem | What to check first |
|---|---|
| Builder button is missing | The product’s assigned template, app block or embed, and the theme you edited. |
| Canvas size is wrong | Product or variant connections, width and height, and inches versus centimeters. |
| Cart price is wrong | The selected variant, its price, and pricing rules inside the app. |
| Order has no usable design file | The app’s order record, design-saving status, and export process. Contact support before printing. |
| File imports at the wrong size | Export dimensions and resolution, plus scaling settings in the RIP. |
After switching themes, check the integration again. Shopify notes that theme apps need to be reactivated in a newly published theme.
Common questions
Can customers upload a finished gang sheet?
Check whether your chosen builder supports finished-sheet uploads. If it does, provide separate instructions for accepted formats, sheet dimensions, and whether uploaded sheets will be resized.
Does a gang sheet builder replace RIP software?
A builder handles the customer’s layout and ordering steps. Your RIP processes the production file for printing. Check the builder’s export formats and test an exported file in your RIP before accepting orders.
